Top 5 College Football Games of 2015
In just over a week I will be saved! College football will be here and I will be able to remove myself from the torture of the MLB season until playoffs come. Lets not waste any time and get right into it.
#5 – Wisconsin vs. Alabama (Arlington, Texas) 8pm September 5th
Is Wisconsin catching Alabama at the right time? I don’t know that catching Alabama at the right time is ever something you can say, but Nick Saban has serious questions at QB, the most important position in football. I will say if you give Saban months to prepare for one game it’s not in your favor. It will likely be Jake Coker, the transfer from Florida State that gets the call behind center, but nothing is official. The challenge for Wisconsin is theyw ill have their 3rd coach in 4 years. They typically are pretty consistent, but this could turn out to be too much in a Big 10 conference that just continues to add coaching talent making it very difficult for anyone to recruit. Wisconsin does get a few guys back including Joel Stave, who has tons of experience at this point in his career. I do think we see Wisconsin go the other way, but I expect this to be a very competitive game.
#4 – Michigan State vs. Oregon, 8pm September 12th
This might finally be the year the Spartans can get past the Pac 12 Oregon Ducks and start their season on a high note. Michigan State is very well known for their defense, but they struggled at many points last year when facing elite offenses like Ohio State, Oregon and Baylor allowing 7.9 yards per play over those 3 games. However, the Spartans have the majority of their offensive line back and arguably a top 5 QB returning in Connor Cook. Meanwhile, Oregon is starting over with a new QB, and we now get to see if Mark Helfrich can make things work without Marcus Mariotta the way Chip Kelly did. Other key notes – Oregon brings in QB Vernon Adams from the FCS (runner up to their Heisman the last 2 years), and Michigan State lost their defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi who takes over as the head coach at Pitt.
#3 Clemson vs. Notre Dame, October 3rd
Clemson calls themselves serious ACC contenders, but I’m not sure they are good enough to get by Florida State, despite all their talent turnover. I’m just not a big believer in their head coach Dabo Sweeney who has had tons of talent over the years and has only produced one ACC Championship team. Clemson always has talent thought and this will be the game I circle as the winner will remain in the college playoff discussion while the loser will be eliminated. The exciting thing for Notre Dame is they get nearly everyone back from last year, and the fact that they had 9 of their last 10 games with negative turnover margin gives the Irish hope to turn everything around. Eliminate turnovers and I will be recommending them as a college football pick later in the season.
#2 TCU vs. Baylor, November 27th
I believe there is a strong possibility that the winner of this game will get a slot in the college football playoff and the other will be part of my college bowl predictions. TCU has everything going for them from the off season until now while Baylor loses significant talent. This was a wild game and a Baylor 61-58 win last year, but it happened very early in the season. This game will happen on Friday after Thanksgiving and should be a real treat to go along with your Turkey leftovers. You know Baylor will be up to speed with their offense by this game, but they will definitely be pushed by Trevone Boykin, a Heisman Trophy front runner.
#1 Alabama vs. Auburn, November 28th
This should be no surprise to anyone that the Iron Bowl makes our list. The winner of this game has gone on to win the SEC title in each of the last 3 years, and I most certainly feel the winner of this year’s game will be one of the four teams selected for the college football playoff.
Other great games for 2015 that I see are Michigan vs. Michigan State, Auburn & LSU, Alabama vs. Georgia, and Arizona State vs. USC and many others. I certainly can not wait for the season to start! Check out all of my college football advice on www.sportsbetcapping.com/freddywills
